Getting started with copy trading
Copy trading lives under the Memecoins tab, next to Perps. It is a separate product with its own wallet on a different chain.
Your perps balance is not available here, and this wallet is not your perps wallet. Perps runs on Arbitrum and holds USDC. Copy trading runs on Solana and spends SOL. The two do not share funds, and money cannot be moved between them inside the app.
Before you start
You will need:
- Access to the beta. Copy trading is invite-gated like the rest of Verus. Request access on Telegram or use someone’s referral link.
- Some SOL. It is the only asset copy trading spends. 1 SOL is a sensible starting amount, for the reasons in How much to fund with below.
Set it up
Open Memecoins and accept the terms
The first time you arrive, a Before you trade dialog asks you to agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Everything else is behind it.
Choose creators to copy
You are shown the creators ranked highest on Fomo. Pick the ones you want to copy, or search for somebody by handle. You can follow up to 10 at a time, and you can change the roster whenever you like.
Following costs nothing and takes effect immediately: Verus starts watching them straight away, whether or not your wallet has anything in it. Read Traders you can copy before you pick, because the board is a discovery tool rather than a recommendation.
Create your copy wallet
Press Create copy wallet. It is one click and there is nothing to write down.
This wallet is custodial. Verus generates and holds its key so that trades can be signed the instant a creator moves, and there is no key export today. Read Security and custody before you fund it. It is a hot trading wallet, not a place to keep savings.
Fund it with SOL
Open Deposit for a QR code and the wallet address, and send SOL to it from any Solana wallet or exchange.
Send SOL on Solana mainnet only. Other tokens, or funds sent on any other network, will not arrive and cannot be recovered.
Set your trade size
Open Trade settings. The default is a fixed $10 per copied buy. This is the setting that decides how much money copy trading can spend on your behalf, so set it deliberately. You can also pick a percentage of your balance, or match the creator’s own size with a cap.
While you are there, consider setting default take-profit and stop-loss levels, and your exposure limits. See Risk controls.
Watch it work
When a creator you follow trades, you will see it appear as Detected, then Submitted, then Landed. Trades that were not copied show as Skipped with the reason. Nothing is hidden from you: the activity feed records what happened either way.
How much to fund with
A practical starting point: 1 SOL. Copy trading is a high-frequency activity. A single creator can trade several times a day, and you can follow ten of them, so a wallet funded for one or two buys empties almost immediately. 1 SOL leaves room for a real run of trades at a sensible size, and you can always withdraw what you do not use.
There is no enforced minimum, but a copied buy costs more than the trade size itself. Before it will place one, Verus checks your wallet can cover:
- the amount being spent, plus your slippage allowance on top of it,
- the platform fee,
- the network fee and the submission tip,
- roughly 0.004 SOL of rent for the accounts a new position needs, about half of which stays with the position until you redeem it,
- and a 0.005 SOL reserve kept back so you can always afford to sell later.
Most of that is recoverable rather than spent. The rent comes back when you redeem it, and the reserve is a floor the wallet keeps rather than a per-trade charge: it is set aside once, not again for every position.
At a $10 trade size and a SOL price around $100, a single buy needs about 0.12 SOL available. So 1 SOL is roughly eight concurrent positions at that size, before you sell anything and recycle the SOL.
If you underfund it, nothing breaks and no money is lost: trades are skipped with Not enough SOL in the activity feed until you top up.
Getting money out
- Withdraw sends SOL, or any USDC sitting in the wallet, to any Solana address you type. It cannot be reversed, so check the address.
- Sell on a position row exits it back to SOL.
- Redeem returns the rent held by token accounts you have fully sold out of.
See Security and custody for how withdrawals are guarded.
